Customs Solution Addressing the issue of Additional Duties On US-Built Yacht
In response to the recently implemented tariffs by the US on European steel and aluminium imports, the European Commission has swiftly initiated countermeasures that will impact US imports into the EU 🇪🇺📉.
The EU Commission has lifted the suspension of existing 2018 and 2020 countermeasures against the US, that included yachts ⛵️, which will therefore be reapplied from April 1st, 2025 📅.
As a result, US-built yachts will be subjected to a 25% customs duty upon importation into the European Union 💰.
Following discussions, French Customs have clarified that US-built yachts, providing that they are commercially registered and had been previously formally imported into the EU before April 1, 2025, will be exempt from this additional customs duty thanks to the Returned Goods Relief (RGR) regime 🔄.
However, please note that there are several mandatory conditions to respect for a yacht to qualify to import under this regime 📝.
